The legend of inserting moxa leaves on the Dragon Boat Festival

On Dragon Boat Festival, every household not only eats zongzi, but also hangs moxa leaves on their doorstep. Do you know what this is all about? There is also such a legend about hanging Aiye.

It is said that at the end of the Tang Dynasty, there was a leader of the peasant uprising named Huang Chao, and the officers and soldiers were frightened when they heard the name.

Once, Huang Chao led an army to Dengzhou City, Henan Province. In order to better understand the terrain, he disguised himself as a civilian to inspect the terrain. At this time, a rural woman came head-on, holding a two-or three-year-old boy in her hand, but holding a five-or six-year-old boy in her arms, heading west with the fleeing crowd. Huang Chao was very puzzled, so he went forward to inquire. The village woman said: the county government sent orders from door to door today, saying that Huang Chao is going to wash Dengzhou in blood right away. Let's run for your lives.

Huang Chao asked: then why are you holding the small one while holding the big one? The village woman replied, "the eldest child, whose parents have been killed by the chaotic army, is now the only one left. In case the yellow nest chases and kills the big boy, what he is afraid of is the end." The younger one is my own son, and even if he is killed, I can have another one. I would rather lose my own child than leave the only seedling of my neighbor.

When Huang Chao heard this, he was moved by the great righteousness of the village woman. he said to the village woman, "I, Huang Chao, fight against the government and will never hurt innocent people!" With that, he pulled out his sword, cut down two moxa grass by the side of the road and gave it to the village woman and said: sister-in-law, you hurry back to the city to spread the word, so that the poor people have wormwood leaves on their doors. With this mark, they will not be harmed. The news soon spread all over the city, and Ai Ye was inserted into the doors of poor families that night.

The next day, on the fifth day of May, the peasant insurgents captured Dengzhou and killed the county magistrate, but the people were not hurt at all. Since then, the legend that inserting moxa leaves on the Dragon Boat Festival can avoid disasters has been handed down to this day.
